FAQ: The NOLAuf – Krampus Parade in New Orleans

What is the Krampus Parade?

The Krampus Parade—officially known as the Krampus NOLAuf—is a creative, high-energy walking parade presented by the Krewe of Krampus. Inspired by Alpine folklore and reimagined through New Orleans culture, it features costumed performers, original characters, and an unforgettable holiday-season celebration.

Why is it called a NOLAuf?

In Alpine countries, these events are known as a Krampuslauf, with lauf meaning “run.” We brought that tradition to New Orleans and created the Krampus NOLAuf our city’s own version of a Krampuslauf, blending Old World folklore with the unique spirit and creativity of New Orleans.

Is the Krampus Parade family-friendly?

Yes! While Krampus has a mischievous reputation, the parade is designed to be enjoyable for all ages. Families are welcome, and many attendees bring children who love the costumes, colors, and characters. Some costumes may be spooky, but nothing is intended to be overly intense or threatening. See the Candy Cane Defense for your protection!

Is there an after party?

Yes! Following the Krampus Parade, the Krewe of Krampus hosts an Honor System After Party, where guests can celebrate, enjoy music, and keep the Krampus spirit going.

The after party is open to everyone. If you’re able to chip in, contributions are appreciated and help keep the event going year after year. If you can’t—don’t worry. Your friends have you covered.
Donations can be made to our Venmo at @kreweofkrampus.

Are there accessibility accommodations?

Yes! Accessibility is a priority for all Krewe of Krampus events. The parade includes designated viewing areas, inclusive crowd-flow planning, and support from One Krewe, our partner organization dedicated to accessible and inclusive parading experiences. View our Accessibility Row information.

Where should we park?

Street parking is available throughout the Bywater, but it fills quickly. We recommend arriving early, carpooling, or using rideshare services when possible. Please follow all posted signs and avoid blocking residential driveways.

Do we need tickets to watch the parade?

No! The Krampus Parade is completely free to attend and open to the public.

Can I dress up to attend the parade?

Absolutely! Audience costumes help elevate the atmosphere. While full Krampus creature costumes are reserved for official Krewe members, attendees are encouraged to dress festively in Alpine, winter, holiday, or Krampus-inspired attire.

Will there be throws?

Yes. The Krewe of Krampus is known for its signature handcrafted throws—creative, collectible pieces you won’t find at any other parade. Since our inception, we’ve been proudly plastic bead–free, focusing instead on original, sustainable items made by members throughout the year.

Our signature throws include:

Handmade Lumps of Coal — crafted and decorated by the Krewe each season.

What happens if it rains?

The Krampus Parade is generally a rain-or-shine event. Any severe weather updates will be announced on our website and social media channels.
