Recycled Glass Doubloons

Introducing the Recycled Glass Doubloon: A New Tradition in Sustainable Parade Collectibles

The Krewe of Krampus is proud to introduce an innovative addition to our lineup of parade throws: the recycled glass doubloon.

Doubloons have been cherished in New Orleans parades since the Krewe of Rex first introduced them in 1960, and they’ve become an iconic collectible across the city’s krewes. Traditionally crafted from aluminum, doubloons have long been seen as a more sustainable alternative to plastic beads. However, questions around sourcing and production materials remain, and at the Krewe of Krampus, we are always looking to deepen our commitment to sustainability.

To minimize environmental impact, our new doubloons are crafted by hand in New Orleans from locally sourced recycled glass. By focusing on locally obtained materials and using our own craftsmanship, we’ve designed a collectible that’s not only memorable but also meaningful.

True to our ethos, each recycled glass doubloon is a work of art. Co-founder and captain Michael Esordi led the design process, creating a version of this classic collectible that reflects both tradition and innovation.
